About IEEC
The Story of the International Ethiopian Evangelical Church
The International Ethiopian Evangelical Church (IEEC) stands as a beacon of faith, hope, and community for thousands of Ethiopian and Eritrean nationals in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area and beyond. What began as a small Bible study among friends has grown into a vibrant and far-reaching ministry that touches lives across the globe.
Humble Beginnings
Nearly 44 years ago, a handful of Ethiopian migrants living in the DC area began gathering for weekly Bible study. These intimate meetings were more than just spiritual reflections—they were lifelines for individuals navigating a new culture, language, and way of life. At that time, the group consisted of fewer than five people, but their passion for Christ and desire to build a Christ-centered community laid the foundation for what would become IEEC.
A Flourishing Community
Over the years, the Lord has richly blessed the work of the pioneers. From its modest beginnings, IEEC has grown into a dynamic church that now serves thousands of believers. The church provides a space where individuals and families can grow in their faith, worship in their heart language, and connect with others who share a common heritage and hope.
IEEC’s ministries span every age and stage of life, offering Bible studies, youth and children’s programs, discipleship opportunities, prayer meetings, outreach ministries, and much more. The church is deeply committed to biblical teaching, Spirit-led worship, and community transformation.
A Global Reach
IEEC's impact is not limited to the DC area. The church has planted and supported several branch churches across the United States, including congregations in Maryland, Virginia, New York, Florida, and South Carolina. These churches continue the mission of reaching the Ethiopian and Eritrean diaspora with the gospel.
The ministry has also extended internationally. IEEC has been supporting churches and fellowships in countries such as Egypt, Lebanon, Djibouti, and Ethiopia, expanding its reach to communities in need of spiritual nourishment and support. These international branches depict IEEC’s commitment to spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to all corners of the world.
Looking Ahead
As IEEC approaches its 45th year, the vision remains strong: to be a Christ-centered, Spirit-filled, and mission-driven church that equips believers, strengthens families, and transforms communities—locally and globally. With God's guidance, IEEC continues to serve as a spiritual home for many, a lighthouse for the lost, and a voice of hope for generations to come.
